Flytrap for stable and farms

How to catch flies around animals' stables or the kitchen?

The most important thing is to understand the different type of flies and why they are near your animals. Black flies, stable flies and other related species are attracted to food and feces. Reproduction is done by laying eggs on or near the animals. Flies use their snouts and tongues to absorb odors so they know where to find the location. Major nuisance is caused by horses, cows, but also small livestock such as rabbits and chickens suffer a lot from it. The indoor enclosures are the ideal breeding grounds for these black flies.

After arriving in the stable, a fly does 4 things.

  1. The fly lays eggs.
  2. Eat feces or food to get protein and then produce new eggs.
  3. Mates to fertilize the eggs.
  4. Flies from place to place to spread it as best as possible.

This is repeated until the temperatures fall too low in the autumn below ± 10 degrees Celsius.

Catching flies in a natural way with an white bucket and flytrap glue!
Prepare a flytrap with flytrap glue

As you have read above, the flies are attracted by their smell and taste and now you will think if we place a trap with smell and taste for example a catching bag with a scent block that it is done quickly. However, many who have tried this will find that it does catch but does not work very well. The enormous smell attracts many flies from further and outside to the animals. Once arrived, the flies will rely on the fresh and organic (manure) and there is then too much choice besides the odor trap.

Other people therefore choose an electric UV trap that certainly works well but is very dangerous to fire. Especially in the stable with your animals, cobwebs and hay.

There are also possibilities to spray poison which is very dangerous for you, your animals, important insects such as bees and these substances end up in our surface water. Which causes great damage to the ecological system.

Catching flies can be done in a natural way with Sticky Trap glue.

Flytrap in zoo

Stable and houseflies can be caught indoors using a white bucket and Sticky Trap glue. The buckets are widely used in stables and hang centrally above the animals. (Catching only works indoors because these flies are near the food and feces as you have read above.)

These indoor fly traps are widely used in horses, cows, rabbits and chickens, but also in indoor zoos. (see picture)

How to build a indoor flytrap with a bucket and flytrap glue ?

Building a flytrap
Drill a hole in the top of the bucket and pull string through the hole. Put a metal ring around the string and tie it with a strong knot, so that the string cannot pull through the hole.

Building a flytrap with glue
Hang the bucket with the opening at the bottom (see picture). We recommend using a white bucket indoors. A colored bucket is needed on the fronts of white walls.

Apply the flytrap glue
Coat the bucket thinly with the special fly trap adhesive from Sticky Trap. 1 to 2 mm thick is sufficient.

Tip: Wear gloves.

For best results, hang your trap just above the animals (not too high, just out of reach) and centrally. (in the flight path).

Clean the buckets and use them again!

The bucket is easy to clean with a spatula and an old newspaper. Buckets can be used again and again.

Always go for the original Sticky Trap fly traps glue 1.5 L = 20-30 traps (unlimited shelf life)
